Is It a Dream or Is It the California Lottery's Big Spin(R)?
SACRAMENTO, Calif.-(Business Wire)-August 2, 2008 - "Am I dreaming?" asked Kathie Robinson of Anza after she won $100,000 during this week's Big Spin show. Robinson outplayed nine other contestants in Aces High and then proceeded to the wheel to spin for a big prize. If I'm dreaming, said Robinson, "Don't pinch me. I don't want to wake up." The latest episode of the Big Spin show aired Saturday, August 2. The grand total won by all contestants was $247,500!
Betty Smith of Atascadero stepped up to the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine, played three balls and walked away with $75,000. Smith, a regular viewer of the Big Spin, said she dreamed she would play three balls. "I have been so blessed in my lifetime," added Smith when referring to what she might do with her prize winnings, "I want to bless others. I'm just a giver. That's what I do."
The last big winner of the day was fearful she would faint because of the excitement. Nicole Walker of Kerman had purchased Big Spin Scratchers(R) tickets with her husband to celebrate a new pregnancy. One of those tickets sent her straight to the popular game show's wheel. Nicole and her husband Nicholas expect a new baby in December. Along with a 10-month-old brother, the family now has $50,000 to spend. "We might use it to go on a vacation to Yellowstone or Arkansas," said Nicole. Then, she said, she'll complete nursing school. -0- *T Winners Summary NAME CITY AMOUNT —————————- —————- ———— Kathie Robinson Anza $100,000 Betty Smith Atascadero $75,000 Nicole Walker Kerman $50,000 Manuel Mazariegos Los Angeles $5,000 Jason Switzer San Diego $4,000 Raquel Ortega Reseda $2,500 Richard Anderson San Jose $2,000 Martin Chavez Govea Sacramento $2,000 Hilda Corona Los Angeles $1,750 Gerardo Ramirez San Jose $1,750 Navjit Walia Stockton $1,750 Tabatha Watson Sacramento $1,750 TOTAL $247,500 *T

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed more than $20 billion to California schools out of total sales of nearly $55 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.5 billion in compensation since 1985.
