Spacetaker Announces Call for Entries to Artists for Annual Winter Holiday Art Market
HOUSTON-(Business Wire)-July 29, 2008 - Spacetaker, a Houston-based, non-profit cultural arts organization dedicated to providing unique artwork to the Houston community, with the Winter Holiday Art Market (WHAM), recently announced a call for entry to Houston area artists, giving local artists the chance to showcase and sell their work at the 2008 Winter Holiday Art Market. Artists of all genres including painters, jewelry makers, potters, sculptors, knitters and other artists are encouraged to register. The sale will take place December 5-7, 2008 at Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter St., Houston, TX 77007.
The event is a three-day affair, kicking off with a reception Friday, December 5th, from 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. On Saturday the sale will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 8:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided for the 70 artists chosen to exhibit. The final sale day will be on Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m.
Artists are invited to submit a registration form via www.spacetaker.org by September 18, 2008 to exhibit at WHAM 2008. Artists will be notified by October 1, 2008, via email, if they are selected. This year presents the unique opportunity for artists to paint live in their exhibit space on Saturday, December 6th. If an artist would like to make his or her art live during the market the exhibitor should note his or her interest on the registration form—number of spots is limited.
The registration fee is $25 and the exhibiting fee is $50. The exhibiting fee will include a 6-foot table. Spacetaker manages the payment process, accepts credit card, cash and check payments. Spacetaker also manages the marketing and advertising for WHAM, and will provide artists with postcards and email flyers to distribute. Seventy-five percent of sales go to the artist and the remaining twenty-five percent will go to Spacetaker. Artists receive a check for the sale of their goods within two weeks of the sale.
Last year's sale attracted more than 1500 patrons and more than 60 artist exhibitors, with approximately $50k worth of art sold.
Sponsors for this year's WHAM include Silver Eagle Distributors, Red Bull and 002houston magazine.
