Zov Karamardian to Demonstrate at The Festival of Arts Art of Cooking: Southern California Chef Series in Laguna Beach
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif.-(Business Wire)-July 7, 2008 - The Festival of Arts - California's Premier Fine Art Show presents the 4th annual weekly event series Art of Cooking. On Sunday, July 13 from 1-2pm, The Festival of Arts welcomes Chef Zov Karamardian who will demonstrate mouth-watering summertime recipes and let you sample her delicious dishes. The cooking demonstration series is FREE with Festival of Arts admission. Zov Karamardian is the well-known owner of Zov's Bistro in Tustin, one of the most recognized restaurants in Orange County and author of the cookbook Zov Recipes & Memories from the Heart. After dazzling the crowds with her unique cooking techniques Zov will give you recipes to take home and you can pick up a signed a copy of her book.
Zov spent the first 14 years of her life in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq where she was constantly in the kitchen helping her mother, grandmother and aunts cook the family specialties of Armenian dishes. When she came to the United States in 1959, Julia Child inspired Zov. She started her career with a home catering business, and in 1987 she opened her own restaurant, Zov's Bistro, in Tustin, California. Her restaurant is one of the most recognized restaurants in Orange County, with an award-winning bakery, banquet facility, catering and cooking classes. She also recently opened two more restaurants, Zov's Cafe Bakery & Bar, in Newport Coast and Irvine. Her restaurants' menus combine flavors and textures in surprisingly different ways.
Zov has contributed numerous recipes to leading food publications including Bon Apetite, Food and Wine, Sunset, Orange County Register and the LA Times. She has appeared on EXTRA, CNN, and the TV Food Network. Zov was named California Chef of the Year in 1999 by then Governor Gray Davis, and Restaurateur of the Year by Southern California Restaurant Writers.
Her cookbook Zov Recipes & Memories from the Heart leads the reader on a journey from her childhood in the Middle East to her world travels. This incredible collection of over 100 recipes, which blends contemporary Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines and cultures, was inspired by Zov's favorite family recipes, her extensive world travel, and the people with whom she has had the pleasure of eating and cooking. This book shares Zov's inspirations and family stories along with an exciting range of dishes and flavors. Zov has also provided a chapter on cooking techniques and pantry ingredients.
Admission is free to Art of Cooking Series with the purchase of The Festival of Arts ticket.
Festival admission prices are $7 for general admission and $4 for seniors and students. A special 75th Anniversary promotion grants everyone 75 cents admission after 7:50 p.m. every day of the week. All general admission tickets to The Festival of Arts - California's Premier Fine Art Show are season passes - unlimited admission. Patrons are encouraged to visit the Festival again and again all summer long to enjoy all the art, activities and events offered. Laguna Beach residents and Military personnel with ID receive free admission, as do children under the age of 12.
