Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. Honored by the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators

DEERFIELD, Ill.-(Business Wire)-July 3, 2008 - Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. (Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE:FO)), a global leader in premium spirits, is honored to receive two Best Practices Awards from the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators (NCSLA) at the organization's 74th annual conference. As the only spirits company to be honored, Beam Global received a Social Responsibility award for the company's Voluntary Principles on Alcohol Advertising and also was honored in the Health and Safety category in recognition of its partnership with the National Center for DWI Courts.

Beam Global was recognized with a Social Responsibility award for its establishment of enhanced advertising and marketing placement practices designed to reduce the exposure of persons under 21 to promotional materials for Beam Global's products. In 2007, Beam Global adopted voluntary standards that restricted its marketing to print, television and radio outlets where the audience comprises at least 75 percent legal purchase age adults. Beam Global also committed that its advertising and promotional activities would - on an aggregate annual basis - reach a minimum average 85 percent legal purchase age audience. The company was also honored for its ongoing partnership with the National Center for DWI Courts. DWI Courts provide long-term, ongoing accountability and rehabilitation to repeat drunk driving offenders in addition to their conviction.

"We're honored to receive two Best Practices Awards from NCSLA," stated Chris Swonger, senior vice president of corporate affairs, Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. "Beam Global is committed to eliminating underage drinking and drunk driving and we are happy to share this award with other state agencies that are developing innovative programs to address alcohol misuse. We thank NCSLA for their leadership in promoting best practices in the industry to end alcohol abuse."

"Beam Global's commitment to social responsibility is evident through its voluntarily adopted stricter advertising placement standards," stated James E. Copple, director, International Institute for Alcohol Awareness. "IIAA nominated Beam Global for their Voluntary Principles on Alcohol Advertising because its work to reduce the exposure of its products to those under 21 is a powerful example of how those within the industry can take the lead in ensuring its products are only marketed to those of legal purchase age."

"We have found an incredible partner in Beam Global," said West Huddleston, executive director of the National Center for DWI Courts and the chief executive officer of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. "We are in our second year working with Beam Global and I am impressed by the company's commitment to eliminating hardcore drunk driving. They have helped us bring national attention to this issue and helped in our efforts to establish more DWI courts."

"We congratulate this year's NCSLA Best Practices Award winners including Beam Global," said John Cordrey, president, National Conference of State Liquor Administrators. "Our awards program continues to be an effective and meaningful way to advance our purpose as well as identify and reward those that exemplify the best amongst us."

The National Conference of State Liquor Administrators, founded in 1934, is an association representing state beverage alcohol regulatory agencies. Its Best Practices Awards recognize innovative programs deemed to be of value to other states and the regulated industry. There were 27 total nominations from both state agencies and industry leaders in the categories of Health and Safety, Mentoring, and Social Responsibility.
