Summertime Opens 'Tidying Up' Opportunities for Kids

BOSTON-(Business Wire)-July 2, 2008 - Getting your children to partake in cleaning activities may sound like a chore in itself to most parents. However, Richard Sparacio, president of MaidPro says that involving children in household chores not only teaches them about responsibility, but also offers a sense of accomplishment for a job well done. And there's no better time to start teaching simple life skills than summer vacation.

"No one really thinks of chores as having any type of 'real' impact on a child's life, but it is always a great thing to show children the rules of tidying up - and they can even be rewarded with money or special activities for helping out," Sparacio said. "This summer, as children are out of school and spending more time at home, we encourage parents to involve their children in simple housekeeping chores.

"Have the kids help out in the kitchen, which is usually a center of family activities," Sparacio said, adding that children can be given tasks like cleaning the dishes, and setting and clearing the kitchen/dining room table. Even small children can help with easy tasks like wiping countertops or dusting. Doing the laundry presents the opportunity to teach about colors (while sorting darks and whites), temperature (hot and cold wash cycles) and time (washing time and drying time). Children can also be responsible for folding clothes, matching socks or sorting items by family member.

"Straightening up" will help to prepare the home for the more extensive cleaning that needs to be done while providing parent and child with quality time together.

The MaidPro team specializes in kitchens, bathrooms, floors and dusting, Sparacio said, and all customers' cleaning services are designed around their needs and their homes. The business offers everything from vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, and shining everything in the home until it is thoroughly cleaned to the customer's preference, Sparacio said. In fact, the entire team is systematically trained in the best techniques and usage of professional-grade cleaning products.
