People Are the Greatest Resource in Global Market, Maintains David Baglee, IM Flash Co-CEO, at Utah Technology Council Breakfast
SALT LAKE CITY-(Business Wire)-June 27, 2008 - Of all the aspects driving IM Flash's decision to base its global business in Utah, people factors are at the top of the list, IM Flash Co-CEO David Baglee maintains. Baglee shared his remarks with leading technology executives in his presentation at a Utah Technology Council (UTC) breakfast earlier this week.
As Baglee addressed his thoughts on "Adapting in the Global Marketplace," he noted that many factors in a global marketplace come into play, including the cost of resources such as power—the U.S. has an advantage, he says—tax incentives and cost of labor.
Baglee noted that since IM Flash's fairly recent inception, the company has come from 18 months behind—a technology generation in the chip business—to three to six months' lead in chip technology on the rest of the world.
In large part, he credits that accomplishment to the company's people.
"We place a high emphasis on empowering people to know what we can do and to know what they can do - minimizing bureaucracy," he said. "Our philosophical alignment with each of our workers is a critical key. The stability of the workforce in Utah is a critical advantage. And while quality of life is not quantifiable, we know that it's a key factor that helps us maintain our workforce here."
David Baglee is responsible for co-leading the joint venture between Intel Corporation and Micron Technology, Inc. He is also Vice President of the Flash Memory Group for Intel Corporation. Baglee joined Intel in 1987, where he has held engineering, manufacturing and factory management roles. Most recently he was Plant Manager for Intel's NOR Flash memory wafer fab in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Baglee has published numerous technical papers in the area of semiconductor processing and is the holder of 17 patents.

The recent venture created by Micron and Intel has enabled the former Micron plant in Lehi, Utah, to work at its full capacity and also brought the sought-after economic benefits to the community.
