Viejas Casino Hosts US Air Guitar Championships
SAN DIEGO-(Business Wire)-June 23, 2008 - The Viejas Casino is proud to host the US Air Guitar Championships on Friday, June 27 at 8 p.m. in the DreamCatcher Lounge. The Championship, held at Viejas Casino, is one of the last stops on the national tour to find the US Air Guitar Champion.
During this unique competition, judges are looking for the performer with the best overall "airness - the extent to which a performance transcends the imitation of a real guitar and becomes an art form in and of itself." Each performer must complete 60 seconds of a song with their invisible guitar. A panel of independent judges will score each performer on a scale from 4.0 - 6.0, with 6.0 being the highest possible score. The score reflects the quality of performance based on technical merit, stage presence and "airness." The competition consists of two rounds: freestyle and compulsory, where the winners from round one must perform a surprise song. The performer with the highest overall score will be named the champion.
In its sixth year, the tour will stop in 21 cities across the United States to find that region's best air guitar champion. Each regional winner, along with defending US champion Andrew "William Ocean" Litz from New York City, will compete in the US Air Guitar Finals on August 8 in San Francisco. The winner from there will represent the USA in the World Championship in Oulu, Finland August 20-22. Air guitarists from around the world including the US, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and the United Arab Emirates will compete in the World Championships.
Tickets to the competition at Viejas Casino are $12 in advance and $14 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Viejas Gift Shop and through all Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 619-220-TIXS. All ticketholders must be 21 and up.
