Oncor Close to Completing Storm Restoration
DALLAS-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - Oncor expects to restore power to the remaining 3,600 homes and businesses in Dallas County without service this evening, less than 48 hours after a violent storm that hit North and East Texas. High winds and rain knocked power out to approximately 150,000 customers in North and East Texas yesterday at noon.
Oncor crews and contractors are on their second day of around-the-clock work restoring power in Dallas/Fort Worth, East and West Texas. As power is restored in one area of the Oncor system, additional crews are reassigned to other, hard-hit communities.
"Our top priority is to get through this restoration safely. Oncor crews are working in difficult conditions, re-setting poles, building electric service, re-energizing lines, all in humid, hot temperatures. We are encouraging crews to take care of their health by taking regular water, food and rest breaks," said Brenda Pulis, Oncor senior vice president.
Pulis asked for the public's cooperation with restoring power.
"The public can assist our crews and contractors by making sure there is easy access to yards where crews must work. Also, please be sure pets are in the house or on a restraint. These simple steps can help us all get the job done faster," she said.
Overnight, a second round of storms in two days struck the Western section of the Oncor service area, damaging transmission lines and poles and complicating restoration to the Midland and Odessa areas. About 2,500 homes and business were without power, primarily in Odessa, at 1 p.m.
Oncor asks those affected by power outages to call the number on their electric bill to report the problem. If there are downed power lines in the area, Oncor warns all consumers to stay away and call 9-1-1.
Oncor is a regulated electric distribution and transmission business that uses superior asset management skills to provide reliable electricity delivery to consumers. Oncor operates the largest distribution and transmission system in Texas, providing power to 3 million electric delivery points over more than 102,000 miles of distribution and 14,000 miles of transmission lines. While Oncor is a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings, Oncor is a separate entity with a separate board that is comprised of a majority of independent directors.
