New MRV Cross Connect Module Expands ROADM Capability in Packet Optical Transport Platform
CHATSWORTH, Calif.-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a leading provider of products and services for WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE, out-of-band networking and other service-aware networking products today announced the new LambdaDriver(R) EM1600-8CC10G 10G Ethernet Cross Connect (EXC) module, which expands the remote network service configurability of its carrier-class packet optical transport system.
The LambdaDriver EXC module is being announced as part of NXTcomm 2008 and is on display in MRV's booth (SU6507).
The EXC module adds remote reconfigurability to LambdaDriver's optical add-drop nodes in a capability MRV calls "eROADM." eROADM provides a cost-effective way to remotely add or drop a service to meet customer demand without manually changing the cabling. The flexible module also allows any port-to-any port connectivity for full-duplex 10G Ethernet, 10G Fibre Channel or OC-192 services. A high-availability port protection mode is also available, and allows any cross-connect port to be immediately switched to another service port in the case of a cable break or other failure on the primary network port.
With eight XFP ports, the EXC module provides the capability to interconnect four full line rate 10-Gigabit Ethernet, 10G Fibre Channel or OC-192 services over a DWDM line. In a separate announcement, MRV also debuted a Gigabit / 10-Gigabit Metro Ethernet switching module for the LambdaDriver, making it the industry's first packet optical networking solution to support both ROADM (all optical - or OOO) and optical-electronic-optical (OEO) cross connect functionality in the same chassis.
"ROADM is a critical capability in building packet optical networks that provide IP-to-optical mapping and with this new cross-connect we give carriers a new OEO alternative that can be more cost effective," said Noam Lotan, president and CEO of MRV Communications. "Now, network architects can leverage the LambdaDriver WDM platform, taking advantage of all its advanced functionality and OAM capabilities while having the cost-effective option of altering the data path remotely."
The EXC module is manageable through LambdaDriver management utility, locally by a serial/RS-232 connection or remotely by TELNET or SNMP. Per-port front-panel light-emitting diodes indicate XFP and link presence or absence.
Availability
The EM1600-8CC10GE LambdaDriver cross connect module is available. Carriers interested in the LambdaDriver platform and its capabilities can find more information on the MRV website at www.mrv.com.
About the MRV's LambdaDriver Platforms
MRV's LambdaDriver WDM platforms provide flexible CWDM and DWDM solutions, enabling enterprises to build campus-wide backbone networks and service providers to create new revenue opportunities due to more efficient use of their existing fiber infrastructure. Three different active chassis (LD400, LD800 and LD1600) and 2 passive chassis (LPD100 and LDP300) with interchangeable modules provide a solution for any network size and service density. Transparent transport allows support for all high-speed LAN, WAN or SAN services. The sub-rate TDM technology allows even more efficient use of the available fiber by aggregating low rate protocols over one wavelength. The LambdaDriver platforms support both CWDM and DWDM technologies, thus enabling a cost efficient initial investment in infrastructure with CWDM and a smooth upgrade path towards full capacity DWDM networks. LambdaDriver platforms are NEBS certified for use in U.S. carrier central office applications. For more information, please visit http://www.mrv.com/wdm/prod_ld.php.
