Major Portuguese Soccer Club Wins Three Awards for Viral Campaign Powered by ATG
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - ATG (Art Technology Group, Inc.), the premier provider of e-commerce software and platform-neutral optimization services, congratulates Sporting, a Portuguese soccer club, which has won three prestigious awards from marketing media channels ad:tech, MarketingSherpa and Portuguese-based Meios & Publicidade magazine. Sporting's viral marketing campaign, powered by ATG's eStara Click to Call service, enabled the Portuguese soccer club to directly connect Sporting fans with a pre-recorded phone call from coach Paulo Bento, igniting enthusiasm by giving them the sensation of interacting directly with this very popular sports personality.
The first award for the Sporting campaign came from ad:tech, winning in the category for "Best Direct Response Campaign," presented during ad:tech's 11th annual awards ceremony at ad:tech San Francisco, on April 15, 2008. Sporting also received recognition from the readers of Portugal's leading marketing and communications magazine, Meios & Publicidade, for "Originality & Innovation" and was honored at the magazine's awards banquet on May 29, 2008. Finally, the most recent accolade for the Sporting campaign was for the 2008 MarketingSherpa Viral Marketing Hall of Fame, where the campaign was featured in a June 3 article.
The Sporting campaign first appeared on Sporting's Web site (www.Sporting.pt), asking viewers to supply a name and telephone number to learn how they could help the team succeed. Users who entered this information saw a brief video clip of the team in the locker room where Coach Paulo Bento receives a team roster with a missing member. The coach then sees the viewer's name on the list and takes out his cell phone. Powered by eStara Click to Call, the viewer's own phone rings and the coach urges the viewer to get to the stadium fast. Within two weeks of the viral advertising campaign, Sporting.pt drew 610,000 visits - resulting in 1,500 new memberships.
"eStara Click to Call allowed Sporting to attract fans and tap into their enthusiasm in a way never before possible," said Andre Rocha, director of marketing, Sporting. "The campaign created a personal connection between our team and each Web site visitor, helping to strengthen our relationship with the public and get many more visitors excited about Sporting. The interactive campaign exceeded our expectations and we were very pleased with the results - so we're quite happy that others are now acknowledging what a terrific program this was for us, too."
"Sporting's campaign demonstrates how beneficial investing in personalized Web experiences can be for companies looking to inject life into their online brand," said Cliff Conneighton, ATG senior vice president of marketing. "We are proud that our click to call technology played a critical role in the success of Sporting's campaign and it is an honor to see that initiative receive such praise from prestigious marketing organizations."
