Eat healthier at the Taste of Chicago? Yes, you can

CHICAGO-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - Most people don't attend the Taste of Chicago for healthy food. After all, it's a time to try new - and sometimes decadent - treats from some of the city's best restaurants. But, without taking the "taste" out of the Taste, it is possible to find healthier choices at what is one of the world's largest food festivals.

Health benefits company Humana unveiled its list of Humana Healthier Choices for the 2008 Taste of Chicago - menu items that can satisfy the taste buds, but leave you feeling a little less guilty.

Humana, working with a list of food items supplied by the Illinois Restaurant Association, asked eateries participating in the Taste to supply nutritional information on those dishes such as calorie count, fat and sugar content, main ingredients and more. Humana then turned to health and wellness expert Dr. Michael Roizen, best-selling co-author of You: Staying Young, syndicated radio host and founder of the realage.com Web site, who - along with a registered dietician - examined the information and selected the final list of healthier choices.

"Those watching their waistline, sticking to a diet or simply trying to eat healthier can find plenty of options at the Taste of Chicago," said Dr. Roizen. "I'm impressed by the variety of healthier fare available and pleased to be able to offer these recommendations. It shows you don't have to eat foods that age you to enjoy the Taste."

During the Taste, Humana will give away free maps showing the way to healthier choices, and if attendees pledge to try at least one of the items on the list, the company will enter them in a prize drawing to receive a copy of Dr. Roizen's latest book, You: Staying Young. Humana Healthier Choices maps are available in English and Spanish at the Humana Senior Dining Pavilion and Humana's booth on Columbus Drive just north of Congress Parkway.

"We hope this list encourages people to try a few of these healthier choices, even as they're enjoying all of the other delicious food at the Taste," said Dr. Philip Painter, regional medical officer for Humana. "The truth is that healthier, nutritional food doesn't have to taste bland, and if people experience that at the Taste, they might be inspired to eat healthier in their day-to-day lives."

In addition, Dr. Roizen will make a special appearance at the Taste of Chicago on Tuesday, July 1. At 1:00 p.m., Dr. Roizen will demonstrate healthy cooking techniques at the Dominick's cooking stage, followed by a question and answer and book-signing session at the Humana Senior Dining Pavilion, scheduled from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. -0- *T Humana Healthier Choices for the 2008 Taste of Chicago: ——————————————————————————————————— Chop Grilled Summer Vegetables Salad - Grill on the Alley Gazpacho - Grill on the Alley Fruit Cup - Hashbrowns Chicken Kabob - Kasia's Deli Chicken Taco - Los Dos Laredos Cheese Pizza (Taste Portion) - Lou Malnati's Malnati Salad (Taste Portion) - Lou Malnati's Fries in Soy Oil with Spices - A Natural Harvest Roasted Corn with Cajun Soy Butter - A Natural Harvest Tamale with Black Bean Salsa - A Natural Harvest Celtic Corn on the Cob - O'Brien's Restaurant *T
