Meru Networks Wins Techworld 2008 Award for 'Enterprise Wireless Product of the Year'
SUNNYVALE, Calif.-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - Meru Networks' AP300 family of wireless access points - the first enterprise wireless product on the market to incorporate the high-performance IEEE 802.11n standard - has won a Techworld Award as "Enterprise Wireless Product of the Year."
Techworld, a UK-based online publication for IT professionals, each year presents the award to outstanding products and users in the European IT community. Nominees are judged by a panel consisting of independent industry luminaries and members of the Techworld editorial team.
Maxwell Cooter, Techworld editor, said, "After a lot of talk about 802.11n by industry players, it was good to see a company such as Meru introduce a product into the UK that actually used the technology. With user organizations set to benefit from the new standard, Meru proved itself to be a real pacesetter in this area and was the clear winner of this award."
Dave Kelly, Meru's vice president for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), said, "This recognition by a leading technology publication signals that both the 11n standard and Meru are gaining strength in European IT organizations. Our AP300 family delivers the industry's lowest cost of ownership while providing enterprise customers in every market segment with an easy migration path from 802.11a/b/g to 802.11n."
Meru was the first WLAN vendor to announce 802.11n user deployments in 2007, and now has 802.11n customers in all major European countries. First introduced in April 2007, the AP300 family of access points uses Meru Air Traffic Control(TM) technology to deliver full 802.11n draft 2.0 performance at the highest possible wireless client densities while offering complete backward compatibility with 802.11a/b/g devices. Powered by IEEE 802.3af (Power over Ethernet), the AP300 family provides 11n support in both the 2.4- and 5-GHz frequency bands, at both 20- and 40-MHz modes; in the dual-radio units, both radios are dual-band-capable to maximize configuration flexibility.
Like all Meru access points, the AP300 family automatically selects a single channel for use enterprise-wide, layering additional channels only where more capacity is required. With all access points occupying the same channel, the network can select the access point that will provide a given client with the highest data rate. This approach minimizes the potential for co-channel interference and eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming channel planning.
Meru's channel network spans 29 countries across EMEA, providing commercial and technical support for the company's fast-growing installed base there.
