BakBone Offers Free Enterprise Disk-Based Data Protection for Red Hat Users
BOSTON-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - BakBone Software(R) (Pink Sheets:BKBO), the leading provider of heterogeneous integrated data protection solutions, today announced NetVault(R): Backup Free Use Edition developed for Enterprise Linux, the industry's first data protection solution to marry open source economics with the safety of enterprise-class functionality and scalability. Targeting small and medium enterprises and emerging markets, NetVault: Backup Free Use Edition developed for Enterprise Linux incorporates the same core technology used by thousands of companies worldwide, providing sophisticated disk-based data protection.
In conjunction with this solution, Red Hat has added BakBone's NetVault: Backup to its Global Compatible Software Catalog, making it the first commercially developed free-use enterprise-class data protection solution offered to the worldwide Red Hat community.
Additionally, BakBone is offering its new subscription-based pricing model with the immediate availability of two new NetVault: Backup solutions for the Red Hat community. NetVault: Backup SMB Edition developed for Enterprise Linux is designed to address the needs of small and mid-sized organizations, while NetVault: Backup Enterprise Edition developed for Enterprise Linux delivers unlimited scalability and flexibility for the most demanding large data center environments. These new solutions make NetVault: Backup on the Red Hat platform even simpler and more cost effective to purchase, deploy and manage.
"The antiquated approaches utilized by the vast majority of proprietary software vendors simply do not provide the compelling value proposition desired by Red Hat customers worldwide," said David Schneider, vice president of Strategic Partners Group, BakBone. "Delivering a free-use version of our award-winning NetVault: Backup solution offers Red Hat Enterprise Linux customers the vehicle to leverage true enterprise-class functionality with the economics of open source. Today's announcement demonstrates our ability to address the evolving needs of the global Linux marketplace and moreover, our ongoing commitment to our relationship with Red Hat."
"Red Hat is pleased to add BakBone to our Global Compatible Software Catalog, and we applaud their free-use model, which we anticipate will provide significant economic value to our customers," said Matt Mattox, director of ISV Alliances, Red Hat. "BakBone's additional move to offer subscription-based pricing for our Red Hat Enterprise Linux customers is complementary to our model and should drive adoption of these solutions."
"With the explosion of mission-critical data driving organizations of all sizes, small and medium businesses also need robust, disk-based data protection solutions with scalability for future growth," said Laura DuBois, IDC program director for storage software. "This class of solution was previously out of reach to most mid-sized organizations. BakBone's offering of a sophisticated, free-use Linux-based data protection solution with built-in virtual tape library support is a very compelling value proposition that most new and emerging organizations will find hard to ignore."
