Julie Wainwright Gets SmartNow ... Launches Innovative Website
BELVEDERE, Calif.-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - Julie Wainwright launches SmartNow.com, the first site developed exclusively for women 35 to 55. Julie's career (CEO of Berkeley Systems- launching "You Don't Know Jack", CEO of Reel.com and founder of Pets.com in 1999) is the stuff of legends. With Julie at the helm as CEO, Pets.com's endearing and enduring sock puppet became one of the most recognizable brands in the U.S. But times changed in the ecommerce world and second round financing dried up. In November 2000, a fateful week shook her life. First she had to close her company then her husband informed her he wanted a divorce.
During this difficult time she spent hours on the Internet trying to find answers to help sort through her challenges. It was then she realized that no one site fulfilled the many needs of women 35 to 55, including health issues, how to deal with adversity, self-improvement, spirituality, fitness, encouragement and more.
Through research Julie discovered that 45 million women 35 to 55 are on the Internet every seven days. She wanted to create a unique place online just for them. She founded SmartNow.com and immediately began women's discussion groups in major metropolitan areas across the United States. She sent them video cameras to capture their comments on women's products, self-help books and pertinent topics. She sought top experts in every area: doctors, dieticians, diet coaches, inspirational writers, psychologists, fashion and beauty professionals. Humorists and a cartoonist were added to give readers a good chuckle.
Launching on June 18th, SmartNow.com features hundreds of videos of real women talking about challenges and experts giving amazing tips plus it features a vibrant community.
