Alloptic Simplifies High Bandwidth Delivery to MTU/MDU Customers
LAS VEGAS-(Business Wire)-June 18, 2008 - Alloptic, a global leader in the development of RF over glass (RFoG) and passive optical networking (PON) solutions for CATV, telecom, and private network operators worldwide, today announced that the company is making it easier to serve existing multi-dwelling unit (MDU) customers with high bandwidth services via a new class of ONTs.
"The challenge with serving MDU and MTU customers is the abundance of twisted pair (CAT3) copper in the last 100 to 1000 feet," said Shane Eleniak, vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Alloptic. "Traditionally, PON vendors required CAT-5 drops from the distribution closet to the customer. The reality is that in urban environments, that is typically not practical and often just not possible. With our Xgen7500 ONTs Alloptic is now enabling network operators to offer customers FTTH-like services without the expense of replacing the copper drops or in-building wiring. Since the ONT is environmentally hardened, it's also suited for the outdoor applications found with fiber-to-the-curb installations."
The Alloptic Xgen7500 ONT provides 24 ports of industry standards-compliant VDSL2+ that each deliver POTS plus up to 100Mbps of DSL services from an Ikanos chipset for optimum interoperability.
Alloptic is an industry leader in the development and deployment of RFoG and PON technology. Alloptic's access network systems have been deployed around the world and offer the only solution with years of field-hardened operational history. Alloptic offers the widest portfolio of products for fiber access networks.
