ArcelorMittal Announces Donation for Victims of Sichuan Earthquake
LUXEMBOURG-(Business Wire)-May 20, 2008 - Regulatory News:
ArcelorMittal is donating over 1 million RMB to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation to help the relief efforts in China following the earthquake that struck Sichuan on Monday 12 May.
ArcelorMittal China and its employees donated 160,000 RMB, complemented by a 900,000 RMB donation from the ArcelorMittal Foundation. This represents a total of 1,060,000 RMB.
In addition to the cash donation, ArcelorMittal is offering to design, technically support and build a new earthquake resistant school for the region
ArcelorMittal China has also encouraged its employees to give blood to support disaster relief efforts as reports from quake-stricken areas show blood and plasma products are urgently needed.
Commenting, Mr. Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman & CEO of ArcelorMittal, said: "On behalf of ArcelorMittal, I would like to express my deepest sympathies to all the people affected by this tragedy. As a responsible corporate citizen, ArcelorMittal is committed to offering further support to the Sichuan region for the reconstruction effort."
ArcelorMittal previously contributed to the first anti-seismic school building in Izmit (Turkey), where a school building was destroyed by an earthquake in 1999.
