New Gift Card Blog Introduced as Companion to Comprehensive Gift Card Website
CHESAPEAKE, Va.-(Business Wire)-May 6, 2008 - Gift card sales have exceeded $85 billion annually in the U.S. alone. A new blog, BYTES From The Card Shark, has debuted to help consumers navigate through the sometimes murky waters of this industry. The blog can be accessed by logging on to www.GiftCardTracker.blogspot.com. This is actually a companion to the most comprehensive gift card informational site that debuted in October 2007, www.GiftCardTRACKER.com.
The column on the main web-site is updated one or two times per month. The new blog will have posts every few days or as needed, to allow for more pressing items to be brought to the forefront, such as special limited-time offers and retailers falling in to bankruptcy (which may mean their gift cards either are now — or soon will be — rendered useless). The maiden issue details a special offer available for the next two months for purchasers of the American Express Gift Card, giving back to the purchaser a promotional gift card that more than triples the investment.
Both the blog (www.GiftCardTracker.blogspot.com) and the web-site (www.GiftCardTRACKER.com) are maintained by Ken Hawkins, a self-described "Gift Cards Guru," of Chesapeake, VA. The site was conceived several years ago, borne out of an unpleasant experience with an expired gift card. Hawkins then made it his full-time occupation last year, providing a multitude of free services to site visitors and users to help them avoid some of the things he encountered with his gift cards.
"Our motto is 'Never Lose Again,'" said Hawkins. He went on to say: "We hope the information and tools we provide to site visitors and users will help them to make more informed purchase decisions and utilize the full value of their gift cards."
