Shift Control Media Wins Webby Award and People's Voice Award for Coca-Cola Games
GREENWICH, Conn.-(Business Wire)-May 6, 2008 - Shift Control Media's series of original online games, developed for Coca-Cola, have won a prestigious 2008 Webby Award in the category of Interactive Advertising—Games and Applications. The entry also won the Webby Awards' People's Voice Award in the same category. Open to online fans around the world, who voted for their favorite Webby nominees on a special web site, the People's Voice Awards were sponsored by Nokia.
Winners of the Webby's and the People's Voice Awards were announced today, and will be honored at a gala in New York on June 10th. Dubbed "the Oscars of the Internet" by The New York Times, the Webby's are the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising, online film and video and mobile websites. They're presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
"This is a defining achievement for our company, which was founded on the premise that games provide marketers with fresh, relevant and engaging ways for consumers to interact with their brands," says Shift Control President and CEO Tim Zuckert. "We're grateful to our colleagues at AKQA, Coke's digital agency, and at Coca-Cola for the opportunity to work with them on this project, and we're thrilled that the result of this collaboration was honored by the Webby Awards jury."
The four original games created by Shift Control are incorporated into Coca-Cola's "Happiness Factory" web site, www.coke.com/HF. The agency built the site around Coke's "Happiness Factory" animated Super Bowl TV spot, which first aired in 2007.
AKQA's elaboration of the TV ad for interactive media envisioned a world where applying for a job at the factory, and playing the part of its fictitious workers comes to life for the enjoyment of Coca-Cola consumers around the globe. Coca-Cola leveraged Shift Control's unique blend of game industry and brand marketing expertise to develop original high quality games which are a core component of the overall digital experience. In the games, players are challenged with multiple levels of console-quality gameplay as they assume the roles of Chinoink, Capper, Kissy Puppy, and Mortar Man.
To play the "Happiness Factory" games, go to http://www.coca-cola.com/HF, enter the site and then click on 'Start Working' once the Happiness Factory page loads.
