New SCOR(R) Certification Program Launched to Standardize and Spotlight Proficiency in Measuring and Managing Global Supply-Chains
MINNEAPOLIS-(Business Wire)-March 19, 2008 - The Supply-Chain Council (SCC), a global not-for-profit consortium and owner of the Supply-Chain Operations Reference (SCOR(R)) Model, announces the launch of its new SCOR Certification Program for supply chain professionals.
The certification, formally released at SCC's Supply-Chain World Conference & Expo in Minneapolis this week, standardizes the credentials for supply-chain expertise and creates a consistent global standard for excellence in the application of SCOR to an organization's supply chain operations.
"This certification ensures that everyone who uses the SCOR model speaks the same language, uses the same metrics, has the same understanding, and shares the same supply-chain concepts," explained SCC Board Chair Mary Scheibner, global supply chain director for process technologies at BASF.
Certification Benefits Professionals and Global Organizations
The new SCOR Professional certification benefits both supply chain practitioners as well as the organizations for which they work.
"Certification will prove an invaluable tool for validating SCOR proficiency when recruiting new supply chain talent, hiring consultants, and staffing supply-chain performance improvement projects," according to SCC executive director Sean Simmons. "SCOR Certification assures globally standardized processes and individual competencies in applying SCOR."
Four individuals represent the inaugural group of SCOR Professionals (SCOR/P), having passed the certification test as part of the SCC's pilot testing process. According to one of these professionals—Gregory Grehawick, an associate with management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton—the certification already has had a positive impact.
"The Supply-Chain Council and the training they provided helped me help my client look at their supply chain operations and find new and better ways of delivering value to their customers," said Grehawick. "Earning the SCOR Certified Professional credential has helped potential clients recognize me as valuable resource qualified to help solve their supply chain challenges."
Exam Rollout and Eligibility
SCOR Professional (SCOR/P) is the first certification program to debut. Three additional levels of SCOR certification—SCOR Scholar, SCOR Expert and SCOR Master—are being developed. To be eligible for the SCOR/P certification exam, professionals must have completed both the SCOR Framework and SCOR Implementation training courses. A certification handbook, which contains information on taking the test as well as sample test questions, is available for download from the SCC website.
