Sun-Times News Group Announces Michelle Holmes Named Editor of SouthtownStar
TINLEY PARK, Ill.-(Business Wire)-February 18, 2008 - The Sun-Times News Group announced today that it has appointed Michelle Holmes, 39, Editor of the SouthtownStar.
Ms. Holmes has been Managing Editor of the Post-Tribune in Northwest Indiana for two years, and previously was Deputy Managing Editor. She joined the paper in 2000 as Porter County editor after several years in various capacities at the News Dispatch in her hometown of Michigan City.
The SouthtownStar, based in Tinley Park, launched in November from the combination of the DailySouthtown and the twice-weekly Neighborhood Star, and provides the most extensive, local coverage of Chicago's Southland. The daily newspaper features nine zoned neighborhood sections that offer more unique local content than any other news organization in the Southland area. SouthtownStar is complemented by Southtownstar.com and Neighborhoodstar.com.
"Michelle brings to our SouthtownStar newsroom the creative leadership that will greatly benefit a daily newspaper so recently launched with the combination of our twice-weekly and daily newspapers," said Murdoch Davis, Publisher of the SouthtownStar and President of Midwest Suburban Publishing, a division of The Sun-Times News Group. "Her experience with intense local news competition and extensive zoning will serve us well. So will her deep respect for journalistic tradition and values combined with a firm grasp of the importance of constant change in today's media world."
