Revision3, TED and Deutsche Welle to Use Miro Open-Source Video Players for Distributing Programming
WORCESTER, Mass.-(Business Wire)-January 31, 2008 - Deutsche Welle, Revision3 and TED today announced that each will launch open-source desktop video players based on the popular Miro internet TV platform. These new players will give viewers direct access to high-quality programming from their desktops.
"Companies are looking for ways to extend their brands to the desktop and create a continuous connection to their viewers. Miro gives them that capability," said Nicholas Reville, Executive Director of Miro. "With a Miro player from one of our partners, viewers have videos automatically downloaded to their computer where they can view them at any time and on their choice of devices."
Immediate Access to Fresh Videos
"We're thrilled to partner with Miro. Their open approach to online video—free player, open-source code, industry-standard video specs—is not only smart, it's perfectly in line with TED's mission of spreading ideas," said June Cohen, TED Director of Media.
Introduction to New Programming
"Revision3 produces high-quality, original programming that speaks to subjects that audiences are passionate about, including technology, modern culture and music," said Damon Berger, Director of Business Development at Revision3. "New shows are available all the time. Our co-branded Miro player makes it easier for people to get their favorite shows automatically downloaded directly to their desktop where they can simply click on the Revision3 player icon and watch."
High-Quality, Open Content
"As Germany's international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle is trying to ensure a free flow of information worldwide and thus looks for partners to assist our users in managing and accessing all the information that's relevant to them," said Holger Hank, Head of the New Media Department at Deutsche Welle. "Deutsche Welle's Miro player gives users the chance to have a wide selection of subscription-based DW content in one place—right there on their desktop."
About Co-Branded Miro Players
Miro is working with a select group of co-branding partners to develop customized, open-source video players that offer a new way for audiences to tune in to their content. Expect a large number of co-branded players to be released over the next year.
