New Golf Ball: No Dimples, No Hooks, No Slices!

ORLANDO, Fla.-(Business Wire)-February 7, 2007 - A dimple-free, smooth surface golf ball that empowers golfers to hit accurate drives and fairway shots, without hook or slice, and rolls with the precision of a billiard ball on the green, has been launched by Caesar Golf Company. A revolutionary design, the Caesar Golf Ball meets all required ball specifications for diameter and weight by golf's governing bodies. PGA professionals at the PGA Merchandising Show in Orlando raved, calling it "a totally new concept," "great for the player who has trouble with hooks and slices."

"There is a Neanderthal mentality in the industry about clubbing the ball as far as possible," says Vin Lee, CEO, Caesar Golf Company. "Accuracy takes a back seat. With the Caesar, the dimples are gone. So are hooks and slices. The golfer has ball control."

A pool player as well as a golfer, Lee one day tried rolling both a golf ball and a billiard ball across a pool table. The cue ball glided across the felt while the golf ball, with dimples, wobbled. With 40 percent of the game of golf taking place on and around the green, Lee began looking into producing a smooth surface golf ball.

Originally, golf balls did have a smooth surface. Dimple patterns evolved when it was discovered they created lift, if the ball reached high velocity. But when a golfer inadvertently adds side spin, a dimpled ball's irregular surface reacts negatively to airflow, causing the ball to hook or slice. The same forces, purposely employed by a pitcher, cause a curve ball in baseball.

Lee points out that golfers average only about 10 shots with a driver in an 18-hole round. The rest of the game is about creating aggressive scoring opportunities. "The real skill in golf is placing each shot where you want it," says Lee. "Who cares how far you hit the ball, if it's in the rough and you can't find it?"

Caesar Golf Balls, which cost 10 times as much to manufacture as a traditional golf ball, will be available online and in golf specialty stores this spring for $60 a half dozen.
