NewBay’s Message Minder Processes over 16 Million Messages in Single Day for O2 Subscribers
BARCELONA, Spain-(Business Wire)-February 17, 2009 - NewBay Software, the leader in digital lifestyle solutions for operators, today announced that its award-winning message management solution, LifeCache Message Minder, successfully backed up and stored over 16 million mobile messages on New Year’s Eve, for subscribers of O2’s Bluebook service. LifeCache currently stores billions of media for live operator services worldwide. O2’s Bluebook service was launched in association with NewBay in 2006 to enable subscribers’ SMS and MMS messages to be automatically stored online, via a network initiated back up. Subscribers can also use the service to save camera phone pictures in online albums, and share them with their family and friends. Bluebook is live and free for O2 subscribers at www.o2.co.uk/bluebook.
“At O2 we realize the significant value that our customers place on their messages and the memories they represent. That is why we chose NewBay to deploy our flagship Bluebook service,” said Richard Porter, Head of Voice and Messaging, Telefónica O2 UK. “Bluebook’s robust handling of a record volume of messages over a very short timeframe demonstrates the solution’s ability to meet the significant demands of this popular service.”
The loss of mobile handsets which store unique and personal media is a significant problem for many users. To address this concern, LifeCache Message Minder automatically backs up precious text, picture and video messages sent and received across an operator network. Message Minder recognizes the phone number associated with each subscriber account and securely stores messages in an operator branded cloud. The integration with a portal address book ensures that all correspondence is assigned the same naming convention that the user associates with that phone number.
“NewBay uniquely takes internet-style innovation and marries it with telco-grade reliability to create operator services which enhance subscribers’ digital lives,” said Dr. Nagappan Arunachalam, CMO, NewBay Software. “The record breaking volume of messages automatically backed up by Message Minder on New Year’s Eve demonstrates Message Minder’s ability to horizontally scale to support tier 1 operators’ messaging traffic and storage requirements. It also showcases the solution’s significant appeal to O2 customers.”
By providing subscribers with a message archive, LifeCache Message Minder positions operators at the center of their subscribers' digital lives and affords a powerful tool that enhances customer loyalty. Via Web 2.0 interfaces, operators can integrate with other operator systems to create rich service “mash-ups” which drive traffic to operator portals.
