BARCELONA, Spain-(Business Wire)-February 17, 2009 - Tecore Networks, a global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, today announced that Ningiq, a joint venture of ASTAC and OTZ, two telephone cooperatives providing mobile communications services in Northern Alaska, has again selected Tecore’s innovative products to offer converged GSM and CDMA voice and data services throughout the region. Ningiq first deployed Tecore systems starting in August 2007, and has now followed that installation with an expansion order that more than doubles the number of sites served.

The key features driving Ningiq’s selection of Tecore include:

  • Tecore’s complete integration of all-IP GSM and CDMA core and radio access network operations at multiple locations
  • Centralized operations supporting Gateway, HLR, SMSC and packet data services on one common core
  • Support of industry-standard roaming with major carriers through GSM MAP and ANSI-41 for GSM and CDMA respectively
  • Multi-technology text messaging including SMS Gateway interoperability with GSM and CDMA carriers
  • Satellite backhaul leveraging IP-based communications for voice (SIP VoIP)/signaling (SIGTRAN) and management control.

Tecore’s multi-technology mobile network system including complete core and radio access networks supporting simultaneous operation of GSM and CDMA is on display at Mobile World Congress, Stand 8C78. The event is in progress from February 16 to 19, in Barcelona, Spain.

Ningiq offers state-of-the-art mobile communications services in rural Alaska, in tough climates and with uneven population.

“We are proud to offer residents and businesses in Northern Alaska state-of-the-art communications services, and to enable visitors from other networks to continue to receive the service levels they are accustomed to while they roam with us,” said Ningiq Representative, Gerald Gardner. “Given the terrain and the target subscriber base we are covering, we required a multi-technology solution that supports the major standards-based technologies. The size, feature set, and scalability of the solution had to fit the parameters of our business plan. Tecore Networks continues to deliver on all counts.”

“Tecore has been a leading provider to rural mobile operators because our solution, scalability, and flexibility are in tune with the requirements and needs of this market. Our success is evidenced by customers continuing to expand and upgrade their networks with us,” said Jay Salkini, Chief Executive Officer of Tecore Networks. “We thank Ningiq for their ongoing business, and look forward to helping them and other operators to offer next-generation services in a cost-effective manner.”
