ArtServe Michigan Names Jennifer Goulet as President
WIXOM, Mich.-(Business Wire)-February 12, 2009 - ArtServe Michigan, www.artservemichigan.org, the leading statewide arts and cultural advocacy organization in Michigan, announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Jennifer H. Goulet as its President. Goulet has been serving as ArtServe's interim President since October, 2008.
"We are very pleased to have Jennifer officially on board as our new President," said Randy Paschke, Chair of ArtServe's Board. "With her in-depth knowledge of the arts and cultural community and our constituents, combined with her drive and commitment, she will provide strong leadership and support for the continued growth of our organization."
"The Board carefully considered the leadership needs of our organization that will be critical to moving ArtServe forward into its next stage of growth during these challenging times," continued Paschke. "Jennifer brings more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and government sectors and has earned a reputation as a trusted and respected leader. Equally important, she shares our passion for continuing ArtServe's mission of cultivating the creative potential of Michigan's arts and cultural sector. Jennifer is the ideal candidate to lead us in our efforts to strengthen the voice and capacity of the arts and cultural sector in Michigan."
Goulet was named ArtServe's interim President in October, 2008 following the departure of former President and CEO Neeta Delaney, and joined ArtServe as its director of development in June, 2007. Prior to coming to ArtServe, Goulet was the executive director of the Chelsea Center for the Arts. From 1993 to 2005, Goulet directed community development and downtown revitalization initiatives for the city of Ypsilanti. Before moving to Michigan in 1993, she directed the growth management initiatives for Brevard County, Florida. She received her bachelor's degree in geography from Valparaiso University and her master's degree in city and regional planning from The Ohio State University.
As executive director of the Chelsea Center for the Arts, Goulet focused on strengthening partnerships with local artists, the city and business community while working to enhance programming and improve its historic school building. She was also instrumental in efforts to transform Ypsilanti's Riverside Arts Center as a vibrant community arts venue including its designation as a 2004 Cool Cities pilot initiative.
"Leading ArtServe Michigan as its President is an honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to further our work in building a statewide grassroots network to influence and broaden support for arts and culture as an essential ingredient to the vibrancy of Michigan and its communities," said Goulet. "I am thrilled to work together with our board, staff and partners across the state in amplifying a united voice in support of arts, culture and creativity, and the role they play in our economy and transforming the lives of people of all ages."
"I've known Jennifer and admired her dedication since working with her shortly following ArtServe's merger with the Michigan Association of Community Arts Agencies," said board vice-chair Melonie Colaianne. "She's a smart, optimistic and independent thinker who focuses on the present challenges as opportunities for the organization, and she's a passionate voice for using the arts to strengthen communities and to help people change their lives."
Goulet has been deeply involved in arts and culture in Michigan and Florida, focusing particularly on its role in building vibrant communities. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Goulet is also on the board of the Riverside Arts Center Foundation and formerly served on the boards of the Michigan Association of Community Arts Agencies, Arts Alliance of the Ann Arbor Area, and the Chambers of Commerce in the Chelsea and Ypsilanti areas.
In September 2008, Delaney announced her plans to resign from her position as president and CEO. She was the organization's first CEO after its merger with the Michigan Association of Community Arts Agencies (MACAA) in 2006, and led the organization through its first stage of merger transition.
