DALLAS-(Business Wire)-February 12, 2009 - Who couldn’t use $50 these days? Anyone whose electricity is delivered by Oncor is eligible for the “Great Refrigerator Roundup,” a refrigerator recycling program designed to collect and recycle old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers. Oncor’s contractor partner, Appliance Recycling Centers of America (ARCA), will pay $50 for working, unwanted refrigerators and freezers. ARCA will pick up the refrigerator or freezer, recycle it, and send the consumer a check.

In its second year, Oncor’s Take A Load Off, TexasSM Refrigerator Recycling Program gives homeowners an incentive to ditch their extra fridges or freezers in an environmentally responsible manner.

“Out-of-date, inefficient refrigerators and freezers waste energy,” said Michael Stockard, Oncor’s Director of Energy Efficiency Programs. “Oncor’s program can help consumers save energy, protect the state’s natural resources through proper recycling, and earn $50. It’s hard to argue with that offer.”

To be eligible, refrigerators or freezers must be empty and working at the time of pick-up. Only refrigerators or freezers designed for homes are eligible. Up to two refrigerators or freezers, or a combination of one refrigerator and one freezer, may be recycled at each address. Consumers must own the refrigerator or freezer to be recycled and it must be available at the address on the electric bill.

To participate, homeowners should call 1-866-472-9376 or visit www.OncorRecycle.com to schedule a collection appointment. To verify addresses, participants should have ESI ID numbers from their monthly electric bills handy. ARCA will pick up refrigerators or freezers, ensure proper recycling of any materials found in the appliances, and recycle all steel, aluminum, copper, and plastic.

Oncor is a regulated electric distribution and transmission business that uses superior asset management skills to provide reliable electricity delivery to consumers. Oncor operates the largest distribution and transmission system in Texas, providing power to 3 million electric delivery points over more than 102,000 miles of distribution and 14,000 miles of transmission lines. While Oncor is owned by a limited number of investors (including majority owner, Energy Future Holdings Corp.), Oncor is managed by its Board of Directors, which is comprised of a majority of independent directors.

ARCA (www.arcainc.com) is one of the nation’s largest recyclers of major household appliances for the energy conservation programs of electric utilities.
