WASHINGTON-(Business Wire)-February 10, 2009 - Profile America — Tuesday, February 10th. A play considered by many critics to be an American classic opened on Broadway on this date 60 years ago — Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman.” The story of a man’s professional and moral failure and the death of his dreams had a lasting emotional impact. Lee J. Cobb starred in the leading role as Willie Loman. The play won six Tony Awards, including best play in a year of many memorable productions, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for drama. Today, there are close to 40 new productions each year on Broadway. Along with established shows, they draw an audience of 12 million annually. Their road tours attract more than 17 million people.
