SAN ANTONIO-(Business Wire)-February 9, 2009 - Dr. Alma Aguado (D), a physician in San Antonio announced this week she has her eye on a U.S. Senate seat for 2010. With Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson's campaign for governor underway, Aguado stated her intentions of running for Texas Senator, and has established an exploratory committee and funding plan to prepare for the race.

Aguado, 46, an internist, is bidding for the Senate spot because she believes State government needs a leader with vision. Aguado is concerned about the current social and economic issues facing Texans, and has examined their implications on the economy now and in the future. Aguado has a remedy to improve the state of affairs, and is asking Texans for political and financial support as she promotes her candidacy.

Though Aguado has not held public office before, she wants to redirect legislation because existing governance isn't solving important issues, such as teenage pregnancy, healthcare for the elderly and high school drop-outs. These problems have an affect on Texas' economy because of costs, and the number of recipients receiving aid in these categories is rising because Texas' population is increasing. Aguado understands the demographic forecast, and can envision the needs of the future now, and has propositions that are a win-win for residents and taxpayers.

Expansive sex education for students, mandatory Texas Futile Care Law education for the elderly, and bipolar screening for high school students are just a few of the initiatives Aguado seeks to implement. Aguado wants to promote legislation to teach students about human sexual intercourse, abstinence, contraception, reproductive health, emotional relations and other topics related to sexual behavior. Aguado wants to implement legislation to educate Medicare recipients about the benefits of advanced directives and alike so seniors can be self-sufficient longer.

As a physician, it is Aguado's nature to care for others, so the decision to run for Senator is expanding that characteristic to a higher level by propelling Texas into another plane. This doctor, business owner and single mother of two, believes legislation needs to be steered in a new direction. She is ready to lead Texas on a new course.
