ROCKVILLE, Md.-(Business Wire)-February 4, 2009 - Corstone Capital (Corstone) and Astra HR today announced that they will host a reception on February 6th to honor the group of rescue workers from the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Montgomery County Police Department, Maryland State Troopers, and US Park Police who bravely responded to the unprecedented and devastating water main break that occurred on December 23, 2008 on River Road in Bethesda, MD. The water main released an estimated 150,000 gallons of water per minute that flooded the major roadway during the morning rush-hour. Due to the quick action of responders, nine stranded motorists were rescued from their vehicles from the scene of rushing water without a single injury.

Rescued motorists, local leaders from Montgomery County, State of Maryland government officials and other members of the community have also been invited to recognize the efforts of the rescue personnel involved. A representative from Congressman Chris Van Hollen’s office will be in attendance to award a Congressional Citation during the reception. Chief Jim Seavey, Sr., of Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department stated he is looking forward to meeting the rescued motorists. “That morning everything happened so fast and there was so much going on. We were just doing our jobs, and once everyone was rescued and accounted for at the scene, we had to get back to work. I think all of us are looking forward to the opportunity to say hello to these people under more pleasant circumstances.”

Albert “Bud” Hawk, Chairman of Corstone and Astra HR, stated, “The community is extremely grateful to the people who gave so much of their time and talent to rescue, repair and return to normal the damage left as a result of the December 23rd water main break on River Road. The local business community and rescued motorists wanted to say thank you to the team of responders, leaders and repair crews for their dedication to their work and their community and to let them know their efforts are very much appreciated.”

Montgomery County (Acting) Fire Chief Richard Bowers notes, “Everyday the men and women of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service respond to calls for help. Seldom are we afforded the opportunity to meet those of whom we come across often under very trying circumstances. This very public event not only directly affected the motorists involved, but had a wide-ranging impact on the County. It is very much appreciated that the community recognizes our collective response to this emergency.”
