RSDL® Receives European CE Mark and Approval by Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration
PRINCETON, N.J.-(Business Wire)-February 2, 2009 - RSDecon, a business of Bracco Diagnostics, Inc., announced today that its RSDL® Chemical Warfare (CW) agent skin decontamination lotion has received both the European CE Mark and approval from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) (ARTG Number 155966).
The European and Australian clearances, combined with U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance in 2003, make RSDL a truly global counter terrorism solution that’s now available to emergency rooms, military personnel and first responders worldwide.
A patented, broad-spectrum liquid CW agent decontaminant, RSDL neutralizes or removes CW agents and T2 toxin from skin on contact, leaving a non-toxic residue that can be rinsed off with water. Military personnel, first responders and counter terrorism experts can learn more about RSDL at the CBRN Conference in Coral Gables, Fla., the CBRN Defense Conference in Vienna, Va.; the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi in February, and the Global Security Asia (GSA) Conference in Singapore in March.
Receipt of the CE Mark certifies that RSDL met the stringent European Union (EU) medical device requirements, has been labeled safe for its intended use, and can now be circulated freely within the 27 EU members. Approval by the TGA ensures that RSDL meets Australian standards of quality, safety and efficacy.
“These milestones enable us to put RSDL into the hands of those who truly need it,” said Bill Scott, Senior Director of Sales, RSDecon. “As global terrorism continues to rise, accessibility to RSDL is vital for all military and first responders around the world.”
Some military organizations and first responders (fire, police and emergency medical organizations including hospitals) already provide their members with RSDL for use in emergency situations involving a CW agent. The U.S. Department of Defense is currently issuing RSDL to combat troops for use in the field. Unlike water or powder-based technologies, which can smear or spread the CW agent, RSDL can decontaminate or remove these agents from the skin.
In the case of large-scale contamination, RSDL can be self-applied, thus reducing the danger to victims awaiting other procedures. RSDL’s single-step application provides the ease of use necessary when time is of the essence.
