Bilingual Birdies and City Treehouse Launch Unique Children’s Mandarin Program
NEW YORK-(Business Wire)-January 29, 2009 - Bilingual Birdies and City Treehouse introduce Mandarin classes for young children––the first program of this type offered in New York City. The 45-minute parent/caregiver-and-child classes teach six-month to five-year olds basic vocabulary in Mandarin via live music, movement, puppetry, dance, and exploratory games. City Treehouse, a nature-themed indoor play and learning center located at 129A West 20th Street, offers Movin’ to Mandarin classes on Mondays at 3:30pm at a cost of $375 for the 10-week winter session.
“Immense interest from families led us to create an interactive and low-pressure curriculum for teaching Mandarin through live music. All children are inherently musical and we firmly believe this is the best way to connect with young learners,” states Sarah Farzam, Founder and Creative Director of Bilingual Birdies.
“Working with Bilingual Birdies, City Treehouse has been able to offer families an engaging forum for developing foreign language skills,” says Sydney Price, Founder of City Treehouse. “Classes in Spanish, Hebrew, and French have been extremely well received by our members and we are thrilled to add Movin’ to Mandarin to our schedule.”
Children attend weekly Bilingual Birdies classes and learn words based on different themes including familiar animals, healthy food, sharing toys, body parts, changing seasons, and more. Teachers are bilingual musicians, trained to create a child- centered environment and facilitate research-based methodologies with high educational and entertainment value.
Movin to Mandarin demo classes will be held at City Treehouse on Mondays, February 9th and March 2nd at 3:30pm. Families are also welcome to join a Mandarin Sing-Along during the Bilingual Birdies Open House on Sunday, March 15th from 3-5pm. Advance registration is required for all classes and events at City Treehouse. Call (212)255-2050 for additional information or to reserve a spot.
