SALT LAKE CITY-(Business Wire)-January 26, 2009 - Kairos Autonomi (http://www.kairosautonomi.com), a manufacturer of retrofit kits to create optionally unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and vessels for military, security and industrial applications, has released a new Armor Enclosure that shields hardware from indirect shrapnel during testing and training exercises.

Using the Pronto4 Armor Enclosure to protect the Pronto4 Strap-on Autonomy System reduces or eliminates the Pronto4 system’s repair or replacement cost when it is used during live fire exercises on an unmanned moving land target (MLT).

“The Armor Enclosure extends the life of the Pronto4 system when used in training, testing and evaluation applications,” said Troy Takach, president and CEO of Kairos Autonomi. “Kairos Autonomi wanted its customers to have the ability to reduce the cost of a disabling collateral hit on the Pronto4 system.”

The rugged Armor Enclosure is made of steel and utilizes a cylindrical design to deflect shrapnel. It also includes the following features:

  • Weighs about 100 lbs
  • Meets MIL-STD-1472D standards for two-person lifts
  • Dimensions are 26 in. long and 13 in. in diameter
  • Easily accessible interior
  • Internal cooling system
  • Pronto4 system shock mounts
  • Cable load opening

Other hardware can be stored inside the Armor Enclosure as well, due to its ample size. It comes with carrying straps and can be secured in a variety of locations on an unmanned vehicle or other test platform. It can be purchased from Kairos Autonomi at http://store.kairosautonomi.com.
