Ohio’s Leading Education Reform Organization Launches New Web Site, Vows Continued Protection of State’s School Choice Programs
COLUMBUS, Ohio-(Business Wire)-January 23, 2009 - School Choice Ohio, the Buckeye State’s leading organization promoting and protecting educational freedom, kick-started 2009 today with the launch of an interactive new Web site. The organization also unveiled a bright and powerful new logo.
The Web site, www.scohio.org, is a comprehensive resource for parents, school choice activists, researchers, and the news media. School Choice Ohio’s site provides information about Ohio’s three private school choice programs, the Educational Choice (EdChoice) Scholarship Program, the Autism Scholarship Program, and the Cleveland Scholarship and Tutoring Program. Together, the programs serve more than 16,700 students.
In an effort to provide parents with immediate information about the private schools participating in the EdChoice program—which is targeted to children who attend public schools placed on Academic Watch or Academic Emergency for two of the last three school years—the site offers a map where parents can type in their address and “map out” the closest schools to their home.
“School Choice Ohio believes that parents deserve to choose a learning environment that suits their child’s unique educational needs, and our new Web site provides parents with the tools they need to make those vital choices,” said School Choice Ohio Executive Director Chad Aldis.
Enrollment in Ohio’s school choice programs has grown by 18 percent from the 2007-08 school year to the 2008-09 school year, Aldis said.
“Throughout the state, demand for school choice programs continues to rise, and we look forward to remaining on the front lines to protect and promote these important initiatives,” Aldis said.
For Ohioans interested in contacting their legislator or elected official to express support for school choice, the new Web site provides an innovative section allowing individuals to search for their state legislators’ contact information.
The mission of School Choice Ohio (SCO) is to protect and expand children’s educational options through ensuring choice in quality schools and other places of learning, thereby supporting systemic reform of K-12 education across the state.
