The Jewish Zodiac Declares 2009 “Year of the Pickle”
WEST HILLS, Calif.-(Business Wire)-January 21, 2009 - Inspired by the favorite take-out food of the chosen people, The Jewish Zodiac (www.jewzo.com) has named 2009 “Year of the Pickle.” With apologies to the Chinese, who celebrate their New Year this January 26th, the “Ox” can be remarkably stubborn. However, the salty-witted “Pickle” is “the perfect sidekick, with a snappy banter that shows genuine seasoning from when you were a cucumber.”
“The Chinese have ‘Year of the Pig’ and ‘Year of the Ox,’” says The Jewish Zodiac creator Seth Front, a comedy writer. “Being the good rabbi’s son that I am, I figured we should have a zodiac of our own.” Enter “Year of the Pickle” and “Year of the Lox.”
The Jewish Zodiac is a tongue-in-cheek parody of the Chinese Zodiac that features 12 symbols based on popular deli foods like Bagel, Pastrami, Egg Cream and Chicken Soup. “God spoke to Moses on Mt. Sinai, he spoke to me in a Chinese restaurant,” says Front. The Jewish Zodiac product line includes 50’s retro-style T-shirts & infant onesies, placemats, coffee cups and kitchen magnets.
Of course, you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy The Jewish Zodiac. Called “hysterical” by Carolina Bermudez of Elvis Duran’s Z100 morning radio show in New York and featured on her “Rage Page,” The Jewish Zodiac is making even shikses laugh out loud.
As for The Jewish Zodiac, Front says more than anything it’s about fun. “I get great joy seeing people look at the placemat and say, ‘What’s my sign? Oh, I’m a Blintz!’ They always say ‘this is fun!’ And if I can bring a little humor into people’s lives, well then, I’m doing my job.”
