NEW YORK-(Business Wire)-January 16, 2009 - Citi called on more than 100,000 employees and their families across the country to answer President-elect Obama’s request to join him in a national day of service on January 19th, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Citi volunteers will participate in hundreds of projects around the country that address community needs, such as beautifying local parks, supporting programs for at-risk youth and engaging in financial education activities.
“Volunteerism has long been a part of Citi’s culture and that’s why we have called on more than 100,000 of our employees around the nation to continue this tradition by answering President-elect Obama’s request for a day of service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,” said Vikram Pandit, Chief Executive Officer of Citi. “From delivering meals to homebound seniors to restoring public spaces to mentoring children, Citi employees will join forces to serve others as part of our commitment to strengthen the communities where we live and work.”
Highlights of Citi’s volunteer projects for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service include:
