Florida Atlantic University Hosts Third Annual Global Shemin Trialogue Seminar
BOCA RATON, Fla.-(Business Wire)-January 15, 2009 - Florida Atlantic University, and the Raddock Family Eminent Scholar Chair in Holocaust Studies, presents the Third Annual Global Shemin Trialogue Seminar on Monday, February 16, from 6:30 – 9:30 pm at the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium on FAU’s Boca Raton Campus (777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida). This groundbreaking, interfaith seminar features internationally renowned religious scholars who will discuss the topic of salvation in each of these three religions. The seminar has been underwritten through a grant from Rhoda and Manny Shemin of Boca Raton.

The Global Shemin Trialogue will feature the following scholars:
Rabbi Gilbert S. Rosenthal directs the National Council of Synagogues, a partnership of the Reform, Conservative, and Reconstructionist movements in Judaism dealing with interfaith matters on a national level. He served as a pulpit rabbi for 33 years, most notably at Temple Beth El of Cedarhurst, New York. From 1990-2000, he served as the executive vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis. Dr. Rosenthal has edited and authored 11 books and several hundred articles, essays and reviews in English and Hebrew.
Dr. Mary C. Boys has been the Skinner and McAlpin Professor of Practical Theology at Union Theological Seminary, New York City since 1994. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member of The Jewish Theological Seminar of America and Teachers College, Columbia University. Professor Boys is the author of many books and articles including Christians and Jews in Dialogue: Learning in the Presence of the Other (2006).
Dr. A. Rashied Omar is a Research Scholar of Islamic Studies and Peace building at the Kroc Institute, University of Notre Dame, USA. Dr. Omar’s research and teaching are focused in the area of Religion, Violence and Peace building, with a twin focus on the Islamic Ethics of War and Peace and Interreligious Dialogue. Currently, he is completing a book manuscript on “Religion, Violence, and State Terror.”
“In bringing these three influential and internationally-known religious leaders together,” said Manny Shemin, “we hope to create a foundation for dialogue and education that can translate into meaningful action.”
The Global Shemin Trialogue Seminar will begin with coffee and dessert from 6:30 – 7 pm, then feature opening remarks by FAU President Frank T. Brogan and Dr. Alan Berger.
The presentation begins promptly at 715 pm, with a Q&A immediately following.
