BURBANK, Calif.-(Business Wire)-January 8, 2009 - The television movie, Working on the Edge has completed principal photography in Canada off the coast of Nova Scotia and various locations in Toronto, Ontario. The epic is based on the true story first chronicled in Spike Walker’s book of the same name. Thom Beers, CEO and Executive Producer of Original Productions, along with Philip Segal, President of Original Productions are serving as Executive Producers of the film. Beers is the creator of the Emmy® winning prime-time series the “Deadliest Catch,” now in its fifth successful season of production on Discovery.

Working on the Edge is produced by noted producer, writer, and director Karen Wookey, who joins the Original team as Executive Producer. “It’s an incredible challenge to recreate the scope of the danger working on the Bering Sea for an audience that is now very familiar with that world,” said Wookey, while on location in Canada.

The two-hour scripted movie tells the story of a momentous winter voyage and the sudden storm that cast its crew into a life and death struggle in frigid waters. In the pitch darkness of night, the unfamiliar skipper and his crew make the decision to abandon ship, even though three of them lack survival suits. This is also the story of the Coast Guard rescuers, whose frantic search begins when the fishing vessel is found early that morning, still afloat, without her crew. A ghost ship.

“The scripted film is a natural extension of Original’s and Discovery’s ‘Deadliest Catch’ brand, because there are stories of heroism that have been left untold on the ocean’s storm-whipped waters,” said Beers. “If the dailies from Working on the Edge are any indication, we have succeeded in capturing the suspense and personal anguish of that dramatic 24-hour period,” said Segal.

Working on the Edge is under the banner of Working Edge Productions, Inc., and is slated to premiere on Discovery in 2009.
