Diamond® Foods Reaches Consumers Seeking a Healthy 2009 with Emerald Nuts Midnight Run in New York
SAN FRANCISCO-(Business Wire)-January 6, 2009 - Diamond Foods, Inc. (NASDAQ:DMND) today announced the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run through Central Park was successful in building brand awareness among consumers who embrace healthy, active lifestyles. Emerald Nuts is the title sponsor of the four-mile run, held at midnight each New Year's Eve in New York City. In addition to the race, the event also features a large fireworks display and costume contest for runners and spectators.
This year more than 5,000 runners and approximately 6,000 spectators braved the frigid temperatures to ring in the new year with Emerald Nuts. Gary Tuchman, a national correspondent for CNN, participated in the Midnight Run for the second year and his race coverage was broadcast live to millions of television viewers. FOX News was also on-site to capture the successful event.
Sean Quigley of Philadelphia, PA won the men’s division with a time of 18 minutes, 45 seconds and Aziza Aliyu of Ethiopia won the women’s division, with a finishing time of 21 minutes, 21 seconds. In addition to the four-mile run, the Central Park event featured a dance party, Emerald product sampling for runners and spectators, a costume contest and spectacular fireworks.

The Emerald Nuts Midnight Run is one of Emerald’s many running events that take place across the U.S. annually.
