Carlson Wireless Sees Increased Interest in “Shovel Ready” Microwave Projects Due to Proposed Stimulus Plan
ARCATA, Calif.-(Business Wire)-January 6, 2009 - Carlson Wireless, a telecommunications radio manufacturer located in Northern California, is experiencing increased interest in their microwave leased line replacement systems as a result of the anticipated funds provided by President-Elect Obama’s Economic Stimulus Plan. These systems replace telephone and T1 landlines with wireless links that are less susceptible to damage during storms and do not require monthly fees to operate.
Microwave communications projects are making it to a number of the “shovel ready” lists proposed by public safety, state and municipal agencies. Many of these proposed infrastructure upgrades are to be put in on existing towers or buildings where typically no local or state permits are required for installation.
“There are a significant number of budgetary quote requests coming in right now,” says Jim Carlson, CEO of CWT. “It seems that many public safety agencies see this as an opportunity to acquire the capital needed to replace wired leased lines.” Mr. Carlson added, “We’re proud that our products are made in America, so that equipment purchased under this plan will help support our domestic workforce.”
James Rosen of McClatchy Newspapers reports that according to Democratic lawmakers and aides, infrastructure now includes more than roads and water systems. “The meaning of ‘infrastructure’ probably will be broadened to include expanding broadband Internet access and creating ‘digital highways’ for the 21st century economy.”
Harlin McEwen, Chairman of the Public Safety Spectrum Trust hopes this will increase the focus on microwave public safety infrastructure as well. Mr. McEwen was quoted in the Washington Business Journal saying that this type of spending “would greatly stimulate the economy through the creation of quality jobs as well as provide a long-term investment in both our economic future and our public safety communications system.”
