Play N Trade Appoints Gaming Industry Veteran as CEO
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.-(Business Wire)-January 6, 2009 - The board of Play N Trade, Inc. today announced the appointment of Larry Plotnick as chief executive officer effective immediately.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Plotnick served as the senior vice president and general manager of Game Crazy during its launch phase from 69 to over 700 locations and more recently as executive vice-president and chief operations officer for Hollywood Entertainment, Game Crazy and Hollywood Video’s parent company. He will be taking the helm during a period of tremendous growth for Play N Trade, the country’s largest franchisor of retail video game outlets, and will be asked to take the brand to the next level, according to Jared Turner, chairman of Play N Trade.
“Larry’s experience and personality will bring the requisite leadership to our company that will benefit our brand and our franchisees and enable us to grow from 250 stores to 1,000 stores by 2011,” said Turner. “We’re delighted to have Larry at the helm.”
Despite a difficult economic environment, Plotnick believes Play N Trade is positioned well in an industry that has strong fundamentals.

Plotnick will succeed Tom McMahon, who will retain a seat on the board of directors. Under McMahon’s guidance, Play N Trade experienced exceptional results in 2008, growing from 132 stores to 241 stores. They also sold 150 additional new franchises. Play N Trade management believes the company will continue to benefit from McMahon’s industry contacts and his past experience with Starbucks and Activision. McMahon applauded the appointment of Plotnick.
