SACRAMENTO, Calif.-(Business Wire)-December 30, 2008 - A Times Square-like “Ball Drop” in downtown Sacramento’s Theatre District – a first for the West Coast – is all set according to the producers of the event, local businesses edaddywarbucks and Paragary’s Restaurant Group.

Former NBA star and newly-elected Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson, will handle master of ceremonies duties for the event. Entertainment will include performances by the cast of California Musical Theatre’s “Forever Plaid” on a stage at 10th and K Streets, leading up to the ball drop from atop a former bank building at 930 K Street.

“It is fitting as the capital of the largest state in the Union, that Sacramento should lead the way with a West Coast version of New York’s famous ball drop,” said downtown businessman, Norm Alvis, president of edaddywarbucks, one of the event’s co-sponsors.

“The downtown business community feels that K Street has been revived in such a way that a celebration is in order. We would like to extend a hearty thank you to all of the businesses that stepped up, and to the leadership of the Downtown Development Department in particular,” said Trevor Shults of the Paragary Restaurant Group, another of the event’s co-sponsors.

“We are celebrating both the beginning of a bright new year, and the revival of downtown Sacramento,” Shults added.

The Sacramento Ball Drop is planned to grow into an annual event stretching from the riverfront in Old Sacramento to the Convention Center, encompassing much of downtown Sacramento.
