HOLLYWOOD-(Business Wire)-December 29, 2008 - U.S. viewers will have a chance to see China like never before beginning January 1, 2009, when 5 Continents Television (5CTV) debuts “Discover China,” a documentary series filmed in high-definition (HD) that unlocks the mysteries of the Middle Kingdom. In partnership with Beijing’s premier production studio, Yuanchun Media Co, Ltd., 5CTV has gained unprecedented access to feature some of China’s most guarded landmarks and artifacts revealing untold secrets behind China’s dynastic legacy.

The first syndicated series to be simulcast in the U.S. and China, “Discover China” boasts a collection of 260 episodes filmed completely in HD, making it the first high-definition series ever to air in China. The series includes shocking archaeological discoveries that may hold the key to the missing link in human evolution, as well as unmatched perspectives on UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the tomb of China’s first emperor dating back to 221 B.C. Spanning China’s five-thousand-year history, “Discover China” will shed new light on the Middle Kingdom’s storied past and provide a truly unique view to Western viewers on the present, including the lifestyles, tourist attractions, and new economic opportunities.

“It is my dream to produce a first-class documentary series for U.S. viewers about China, and a partnership with U.S.-based 5CTV made perfect sense,” said Guan Hui, CEO of Beijing Yuanchun Media Co. Ltd.

“5CTV seeks not only to provide high-quality programming but also to serve as a cross-cultural network that ‘Brings China to the World and the World to China.’ A partnership with Beijing Yuanchun Media Co. Ltd., one of China’s most highly regarded production companies, allows us to do just that,” said Ken Liu, Chairman of 5CTV.

The series is endorsed by China Central Television (CCTV) and will be simulcast—in English—in the U.S. on DIRECTV (Channel 325), DISH Network (Channel 9407), and in China across the top 30 provincial TV markets, including Beijing and Shanghai. The expected audience reach is more than 32 million U.S. households and 700 million Chinese viewers.

“Discover China” will air Monday through Friday from 3:00pm-3:30pm (Eastern) on DIRECTV (Channel 325) and on DISH Network (Channel 9407) from 12:00am-12:30am (Eastern). Directly following “Discover China” and also premiering January 1 is another unique series from 5CTV entitled “Great Journey,” a seven-part documentary that spotlights the last three decades of China’s development.
