-(Business Wire)-September 29, 2009 - In conjunction with Hearing Aid Awareness Week, Sonic Innovations (www.sonici.com), a Utah-based global hearing aid manufacturer, warns that not being able to hear is more important to your health than you may think. Hearing loss has been linked to depression, anxiety and self-esteem issues.

Michael Nilsson, vice president of Auditory Research for Sonic Innovations, says, “With today’s constant exposure to iPods, concerts and loud noise in general, hearing loss is a concern for all ages. There are an estimated 25 million people under the age of 65 who struggle with some form of hearing loss. Of those, 43 percent are younger than 55.”

Hearing Aid Awareness Week is Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, 2009.

  • The International Hearing Society declared this week to inform the public about new research and innovative hearing aids available.
  • Hearing Aid Awareness Week has been nationally recognized since 1995 and is acknowledged by the Department of Health and Human Services’ National Health Information Center.

A study conducted by National Council of Aging (NCOA) showed…

  • Those who use hearing aids experience a higher quality of life.
  • The NCOA survey of 3,779 people affected by hearing loss revealed that those who used hearing aids are more socially active and less likely to suffer from depression, insecurity and worry (https://www.ncoa.org/content.cfm?sectionID=105&detail=46).

Nilsson says, “Sonic Innovations’ Touch hearing aid line is the industry’s smallest receiver-in-the-canal hearing instrument and is 50 percent smaller and 100 percent better. These devices are so tiny, they’re virtually invisible! Sonic Innovations also specializes in aesthetic designs by offering 75 different color combinations for its products.”
