CHICAGO-(Business Wire)-September 29, 2009 - Second Amendment Foundation:

WHAT: Press conference with plaintiffs and attorneys on possible Supreme Court consideration of Chicago gun ban case.

WHEN: The event will begin at Noon, Central Time, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 if the Supreme Court agrees to hear the Chicago gun ban case.

WHERE: Hyatt Regency Chicago, Toronto Room, West Tower, 151 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois.

WHO: Confirmed speakers will include Attorneys Alan Gura and David Sigale. Alan Gura successfully argued the Heller challenge to Washington, D.C.’s gun laws before the Supreme Court. Gura and Sigale have litigated the Chicago case together since moments after the Supreme Court’s decision in Heller.

Individual plaintiffs Otis McDonald, a Chicago resident since 1952, Army veteran and former head of his union local; Adam Orlov, a former Evanston, IL police officer; David Lawson, a software engineer living in Chicago for over 25 years, and his wife, Chicago-native Colleen Lawson.

BACKGROUND: As early as Wednesday, the Supreme Court is expected to announce whether it will hear a constitutional challenge to the City of Chicago’s handgun ban and other highly restrictive gun control laws.

Last year, in the landmark District of Columbia v. Heller case, the Supreme Court ruled the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to possess functional firearms, including handguns, and struck down Washington, D.C.’s gun bans.

Left open in Heller was the question of whether states and local governments are required to obey the Second Amendment. That question is now presented to the Supreme Court in challenges to several Chicago gun laws, including Chicago’s handgun ban.

If the Supreme Court announces that it will hear the Chicago gun ban cases, the Plaintiffs and attorneys in McDonald v. City of Chicago will be available to the media to discuss the case.
