LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau Elects Thomas Mullen as Chairman of Board of Directors
LOS ANGELES-(Business Wire)-September 29, 2009 - LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau announces the election of Thomas Mullen, Vice President - Large Market Development for American Express Merchant Services based in Los Angeles, as chairman of its governing board of directors.
“Tom has been an active member of our board of directors and I’m pleased that he will be taking this leadership position during these challenging times for our industry,” says Mark Liberman, president and CEO for LA INC. “His familiarity with all aspects of the travel and tourism industry and extensive experience working with convention and visitors bureaus will help guide the strategic direction of the organization.”
Currently, Mullen oversees large market development for American Express in Los Angeles, Northern California and Hawaii. Mullen has served on the Board of Directors for the Pacific Asia Travel Association and the Hawaii Hotel Association. He was chairman of the board of directors for the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.
Mullen began his career with American Express as a financial analyst in 1986 and moved through the ranks in finance, business development and merchant services. While at American Express, Mullen has launched new businesses for the company in Hawaii including a turnkey concierge business, an inbound call center and foreign currency services. Also, he co-founded Hale Aina Ohana, a non-profit 501c3 organization that provides culinary education opportunities for young people.

He succeeds Cathy Bradley Berg, regional vice president, Western Division Passenger Sales for American Airlines. Members of the LA INC. Board of Directors serve on a non-paid, voluntary basis. They represent a cross-section of industries affected by travel and tourism.
