TEXARKANA, Texas-(Business Wire)-September 29, 2009 - Humco Holding Group, Inc. today announced it has significantly increased its October production of Humco® Cherry Syrup for use in the emergency compounding by pharmacists of an oral suspension from Tamiflu® capsules, intended for children and adults with difficulty swallowing Tamiflu® capsules, or who require lower doses. The company also said it is fulfilling in a timely manner significantly increased orders placed in September.

A Tamiflu® Oral Suspension short supply situation could develop this flu season based on current projections for influenza incidence. Since November 2006, the FDA has permitted compounding of an oral suspension from Tamiflu® capsules in emergency situations, when FDA-approved, commercially manufactured Tamiflu® Oral Suspension is not available. The FDA-approved Tamiflu® labeling for such emergency usage references Cherry Syrup (Humco®), as one of the only two syrups for emergency compounding. The Humco Cherry Syrup is the only naturally sweetened syrup studied by the manufacturer of Tamiflu.

“We want to assure pharmacies and pharmacists of our capacity and commitment to manufacture and ship, in a timely manner, Humco® Cherry Syrup as circumstances dictate,” said Greg Pulido, CEO, Humco Holding Group, Inc.

“We took extraordinarily high orders during September, and proactively increased production to assure consistent, on-time deliveries,” Pulido said. “Our aggressive October plans are geared to meet yet higher anticipated demand, and to maintain on-time fulfillment.”

Pulido said Humco® Cherry Syrup is ready to ship immediately through all major wholesalers to pharmacies, hospitals and community health channels. “We are seeing many of the nation’s leading pharmacies recommending a one-pint inventory per dispensing location, which we agree is prudent,” he said.

The compounded suspension should not be used for convenience or when the FDA-approved Tamiflu® Oral Suspension is commercially available. Complete FDA guidelines and compounding instructions are available at http://www.tamiflu.com/hcp/dosing/extprep.aspx
