Leerink Swann Expands Strategic Advisors Group

BOSTON-(Business Wire)-September 29, 2009 - The leading healthcare investment bank, Leerink Swann, today announced the continued expansion of its management consultant arm, the Strategic Advisory group, with the addition of three managing directors: Mary Cummins from Boston Consulting Group, Ben Hohn from Monitor and Kraig Schulz from Marakon. All three are located in the firm’s New York office and will be responsible for assisting Leerink’s life sciences and healthcare clients to develop and deliver sustainable improvement in growth and profitability.

About Mary Cummins

Prior to joining Leerink Swann as a managing director, Mary Cummins spent 17 years at The Boston Consulting Group where she was a partner. She started her career with Bain & Company in London. Mary has advised major pharmaceutical and specialty pharmaceutical companies on corporate strategy, M&A, portfolio strategy, operational effectiveness in R&D and organization redesign.

Cummins received her B.A. in electrical engineering from Cambridge College and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

About Ben Hohn

Prior to joining Leerink Swann as a managing director, Ben Hohn was a partner with the Monitor Group in New York. He advised clients in the life sciences industries focusing on strategic company challenges and commercial and product development as well as corporate strategy and new growth platforms, M&A analyses and licensing and opportunity assessment.

Hohn received his B.A. in economics from Vassar College and an M.B.A. from Boston University.

About Kraig Schulz

Prior to joining Leerink Swann as a managing director, Kraig Schulz was a partner at Marakon Associates where he led the development of the firm’s “customer-back” approach to strategy. This approach uses deep insights about customers’ needs, behavior and willingness to pay as a starting point to identify and resolve companies pressing issues or challenges. Prior to joining Marakon, Schulz was a Senior Partner at the global ad agency Ogilvy and Mather. Kraig used technical expertise in designing and analyzing primary research and helped clients to identify new opportunities in medical products, pharmaceutical distribution, product licensing and pharmaceutical sales and marketing.

Schulz received his B.A. in economics from University of Minnesota and an M.S. in applied economics from University of Arizona.
