Aurora Breast MRI of Sarasota and Clear Channel Radio, Partner for “Change for Change” Fundraising Event
SARASOTA, Fla.-(Business Wire)-September 29, 2009 - Aurora Breast MRI of Sarasota today announced it has partnered with Clear Channel Radio for a fundraising effort to benefit The Wellness Community of Southwest Florida. The fundraiser, titled “Change for Change,” will consist of a series of breast cancer awareness messages throughout the month of October to encourage donations at area “Change for Change” locations.
The Aurora Breast MRI of Sarasota center began with the purpose of bringing cancer care closer to home by making available and accessible state-of-the-art technologies for early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
“We hope that through this fundraising effort we can help support breast cancer programs being offered by The Wellness Community, which ultimately supports our mission of providing outstanding care and service to breast cancer patients within our community,” said Dr. Nancy Wilson, medical director of Aurora Breast MRI of Sarasota and director of mammography for Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She added, “We know that today funds are difficult for non-profit organizations to raise for the free care they provide. By asking for spare “change” we hope to bridge the gap and provide support for these vital programs.”
The Wellness Community (TWC), a non-profit organization, offers a wide variety of programs, always at no charge, and all intended to help cancer patients and their loved ones play an active role in the recovery process. TWC programming is offered in a home-like setting where people with cancer and their caregivers join a community of others fighting the same disease. Services include professionally facilitated support groups, children’s programs, exercise classes, nutrition workshops, and “Ask the Doctor” educational programs. All services are offered to both cancer patients and their caregivers completely free of charge.
The Wellness Community philosophy is that by utilizing TWC services, cancer patients — regarding the outcomes of their treatments — will improve the quality of their lives and may enhance the possibility of their recovery.
Jay Lockaby, executive director of The Wellness Community of Southwest Florida said, “We are thrilled with the generosity exhibited by Aurora and Clear Channel through this partnership. The opportunity to raise funds and awareness for our free programs could not come at a more crucial time.”
Pete Norden, vice president and general manager of Clear Channel Radio of Sarasota commented, “All of us at Clear Channel Radio of Sarasota are excited to be a partner in ‘Change for Change.’ The need has never been greater and the environment has never been more difficult. We look forward to working with our partners in creating real change!”
