MADISON, Wis.-(Business Wire)-September 28, 2009 - BioForward, the member-driven state association that is the voice of Wisconsin’s biotechnology industry, today announced moderator and panel participants for the closing plenary of the Biotechnology Vision Summit. The organization’s new executive director, Bryan Z. Renk, will participate in the closing plenary session of the Biotechnology Vision Summit 2009. The summit is being held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Madison Marriott West in Madison, Wis. and is hosted by BioForward.

The session, titled Creating the Vision for Biotechnology in the 2010s, is the last of the summit and will attempt to synthesize all the earlier summit discussions into a shared vision for the state and region’s biotechnology industry. Mr. Renk will be joined on the panel by Deven McGlenn, chief executive of Neoclone; Paul Radspinner, president and chief executive of FluGen; Laura Strong, president and chief operating officer of Quintessence Biosciences, and; Trevor Twose, chief executive of Mithridion. Nick Mischler, partner with Wisconsin Investment Partners will be the moderator for the plenary panel.

In additional to striving for a shared vision of biotechnology’s future in the region, the summit also will highlight six emerging companies. The first annual Emerging Company Showcase is sponsored by BloodCenter of Wisconsin and TomoTherapy. Its six winners were announced earlier this week and include: AquaMost, Echometrix, Flex Biomedical, Invivosciences, Rapid Diagnostek and Semba Biosciences.

“We look forward to shaping common thinking about what is needed to ensure biotechnology’s continued growth in our region,” said Bryan Z. Renk, executive director of BioForward. “We have a terrific panel that will attempt to draw together all that we will have learned throughout the summit. I’m looking forward to participating in what I’m sure will be an outstanding discussion. I’m also looking forward to recognizing the six winners of the Emerging Company Showcase and we thank its sponsors, BloodCenter of Wisconsin and TomoTherapy, for making the showcase possible.”
