Sons of Italy New Jersey Foundation, Inc. to Hold 2009 Charity Walk in Celebration of Columbus Day
CHERRY HILL, N.J.-(Business Wire)-September 28, 2009 - The Sons of Italy New Jersey Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the oldest and largest national organization for men and women of Italian descent, today announced its 2009 Charity Walk, to be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Cooper River Park on North Park Drive in Pennsauken, NJ. At this annual event, in recognition of Columbus Day, the Sons of Italy New Jersey Foundation, Inc. will also honor two Italian-Americans for their contributions to the community, charity and fostering a positive image of Italians in America.
The Award recipients include: Louis Capelli, Jr., Camden County Freeholder Director (D-NJ); State Senator Anthony Bucco (R-NJ); and State Senator Joseph Vitale (D-NJ). The event will also feature a ceremony to mark Columbus Day, and a festival that will feature food, Italian-themed vendors and novelties, a bocce tournament and children’s activities area. The highlight of the day’s events will feature live entertainment, including comedian Uncle Floyd and singer Al Chance, a performance by crooner Micheal Castaldo, a singer, recording artist, composer and connoisseur, and a special appearance by Bob Charger, Radio Personality, from WOGL 98.1 FM. The proceeds of the Charity Walk and Festival will benefit the organization’s philanthropic activities, including scholarships for high school students, medical research, and supporting the preservation and promotion of Italian-American heritage and culture.
